Programs and Services
FAPA’s programs and services include the following:
Pre-service training for potential foster parents to satisfy their training requirements for initial licensure.
In-service training, education, and workshops focusing on subjects relevant to maintaining licensure.
CPR/first aid training, which is an integral part of the re-licensing process for all foster parents.
Quarterly workshops and seminars on a variety of topics that address the opportunities and challenges of foster, adoptive, and kinship care.
Training for FAPA leaders in order to keep them abreast of national trends, laws, and regulations to help improve the organization’s operations.
Collaboration with Support Groups that have been in existence for many years to provide assistance and guidance to different parent groups within the foster parent community.
An Annual Conference and Teen Conference with workshops and speakers that inform and motivate.
Barbara Collins Peer-to-Peer Mentor Program, which provides support for foster parents to ensure that they continue to provide foster parenting; and helps foster, adoptive, and kinship parents navigate through issues relating to children, family, agency and/or any matters relating to foster/adoptive/kinship parenting.
Family activities in which foster/adoptive/kinship parents and children participate, including back-to-school activity, Christmas Activity, Celebration of National Foster Care Month, and Celebration of Adoption’s Month.
